Orange County election lawsuit moved to Tallahassee

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — A lawsuit seeking a special election for the District 3 Orange County Commission seat has been transferred to circuit court in Tallahassee.

The lawsuit, filed by Randy Ross, seeks a special election to fill the seat being vacated by Mayra Uribe, who resigned effective Dec. 7 to run for county mayor.

Under state law, Uribe would have needed to resign by Aug. 1 to trigger a special election to fill her unexpired term. Instead, state law now dictates that the governor will fill the seat.

The case was transferred to the circuit court in Tallahassee by an Orange County judge on Friday.
