Judge Eboni Johnson Rose (D) seeks re-election after suspension, probation
BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - Judge Eboni Johnson Rose is running for re-election to the bench, following a Louisiana Supreme Court suspension and a period of restricted duties.
In August 2024, the Louisiana Supreme Court temporarily removed Johnson Rose from the bench while it reviewed her case. Last April, the court suspended her for six months without pay, with all but two months deferred, for "mishandling" several cases and making "inappropriate" remarks toward prosecutors in the courtroom. The court also placed her on two years of probation.
In August 2025, Johnson Rose began handling civil cases only, while her uncle, Chief Judge Don Johnson, took over her criminal cases....
The qualifying period for this falls election has not closed, and it remains unclear who else may enter the race. Johnson Rose did not respond to requests for comment through her judicial office or campaign pages as of the time of this report.
