Detroit will choose a new mayor in August, November elections: How to vote

Detroiters on Aug. 5 will select nominees for mayor, city council and the Board of Police Commissioners in a primary that will determine which candidates move on to the Nov. 5 general election.

Early voting starts July 26.

Check your registration status by entering your information on the Michigan Secretary of State's website. You can also go to your local clerk's office, which can be found by entering your address at mvic.sos.state.mi.us/Voter/Index/#yourclerk.

Michiganders can go to their clerk's office the day of the election to register and then vote at their polling place anytime from 7 a.m. until the polls close at 8 p.m. Registered voters have the right to cast a ballot as long as they are in line at their polling place by 8 p.m. on Election Day.
