Sherrill Endorses Party-Backed Council Candidates In Piscataway

Gov. Mikie Sherrill is endorsing the party-backed candidates in a contentious city council primary in Piscataway, the local Democratic organization announced Wednesday.

Sherrill endorsed four incumbents — Michele Lombardi, Sharon Carmichael, Frank Uhrin, and Dennis Espinosa — who face challenges from a slate of progressive Piscataway residents.

“Piscataway families deserve real results from their local leaders — and that’s exactly why I’m endorsing Frank Uhrin, Dennis Espinosa, Sharon Carmichael, and Michele Lombardi for reelection,” Sherrill said. “Together, they have delivered on improving Piscataway’s roads, parks, and pedestrian safety, with a commitment to being accessible to residents. I know that they will continue that work so Piscataway families can thrive.”

The Working Families Party is backing candidates from the Piscataway Progressive Democratic Organization: Shantell Cherry, Elizabeth “Betsy” Aumack, Viola Stone, and Rashaad Couloote. The progressives are looking to take control of the council.
