Mamdani nets two more City Council endorsements
Democratic mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani picked up two new City Council endorsements Friday — from Democrats Rita Joseph of Brooklyn and Shaun Abreu from northern Manhattan.
Abreu appeared with Mamdani on Thursday in Washington Heights, introducing him ahead of Rep. Adriano Espaillat’s endorsement of his mayoral run.
Joseph chairs the City Council’s Committee on Education, and her endorsement follows the powerful United Federation of Teachers union’s decision to back Mamdani.
If elected in November, Mamdani will have to rely on Council allies for everything from city budget negotiations to policy proposals.
