North Dakota focused on increasing voter turnout
BISMARCK, N.D. (KFYR) - Sept. 16 is National Voter Registration Day, but what does that mean in North Dakota, the only state that doesn’t require formal registration?
The next elections in North Dakota are in June and November of 2026.
“We want to, one, make sure voting is accessible to every eligible voter. We want to make it secure, and we want to make sure it’s accurate. Those are the three principles our office goes forward with,” said Michael Howe, the North Dakota Secretary of State.
In North Dakota, voters present a valid form of North Dakota ID, such as a driver’s license, Tribal ID or long-term care certificate. The ID must include their name, current address of residence and date of birth.
