Scranton mayoral race heats up ahead of election day

SCRANTON, Pa. — The top seat in the city of Scranton is up for grabs, but incumbent Democrat Paige Cognetti says there is still work she has to do.

This is Cognetti's third race for the office and what could be her second full term as mayor if she wins on November 4.

"We've been doing the work for six years. We've taken ourselves from really scandal and, you know, just junk bond status, and our finances were completely messed up to the place that we are today. We're managing things," said Cognetti. "We're taking on big projects — projects the scope of which, in previous administrations, I don't think could have gotten done."

Across the aisle, Republican Trish Beynon is eager to be the next woman in charge of the Electric City.
