DJ Rich wins Tuesday's election for Folly Beach city council seat
FOLLY BEACH S.C. (WCIV) — Former Folly Beach councilman D.J. Rich is returning to office after winning a special election on Feb. 17, according to unofficial results.
Rich received 51.9% of the vote, edging out challenger John McFarland, who captured 48.1%.
Rich previously served a combined 14 years on council and campaigned on bringing that experience back to City Hall. In a message posted to Facebook the day before the election, he urged residents to vote and said he hoped to help the new administration guide the city “responsibly.”
He sought the mayor’s office last fall but finished third in the November race behind candidates Elton Culpepper and Chris Bizzell, with Bizzell being sworn in as mayor on Nov. 21, 2025.
