Plan to roll out hand-marked ballots gets preview in Collin County

Until earlier this month, a push to adopt hand-marked paper ballots in Collin County had gone nowhere, with County Judge Chris Hill its lone advocate on the commissioner’s court.

As recently as November, Hill’s motion for the county to adopt hand-marked ballots failed to get a second.

But after nearly a year of trying, Hill finally got the support he needed — with cover from an executive order issued in March by President Donald Trump aimed at changing how elections are run across the country.

Earlier this month Collin County commissioners – all Republicans – agreed to adopt hand-marked ballots for the November election. On Monday, county staff is scheduled to present its plan to enact the changes, as well as provide how much it will cost to make the shift.
