McAllen ISD approves $335 million bond election

cALLEN — In a meeting on Tuesday, the school board here voted to call for a $335 million bond election in May for safety and security improvements, facility repairs and updated learning spaces, all with the district saying there won’t be a tax rate increase.

After close to a year of planning, meetings with the Facilities Forecast Advisory Committee (FFAC), campus tours and a facilities assessment have culminated into a $335 million bond recommendation to the board.

District officials have said that there is no tax rate increase for the bond. The current tax rate for McAllen ISD is $0.93. The district’s tax rate has decreased by 22 cents since 2015.

The $355 million bond will fall into one proposition on the ballot.
