Seattle mayoral race ramps up as polling, election day draws closer
SEATTLE As the election season hits crunch time, the Seattle mayoral race has tightened up and become more antagonistic.
Bruce Harrell, the incumbent, has used the bully pulpit to host near-daily press conferences and also consistently has been trying to paint a picture that challenger Katie Wilson is unqualified and unprepared to hold such an office.
People are realizing that a lot of the information she's providing about herself has just been untrue, said Harrell in an interview on Friday.
He and a political action committee supporting his re-election have been using Wilsons past comments in debates on her experience and background to try to dig out of a hole that first appeared in August. Wilson defeated Harrell by 10 points in the primary, stunning most political observers and the mayor, who most city hall insiders had viewed as cruising to re-election.
