What's next for the Wisconsin Democratic Party? A 'trifecta,' they hope
With six months still to go in 2025, Wisconsin Democrats are already bracing for next year.
This Saturday and Sunday, party officials, delegates and politicians will gather in the Wisconsin Dells to elect a new leader to replace outgoing Chair Ben Wikler and set a course for a critical set of 2026 elections.
Wikler, who announced in April that he planned to step down as party chairman, has not revealed future political plans. Some have speculated that hes one of many Democrats who might make a bid for governor if Tony Evers decides not to run for a third term.
Following a painful defeat in the presidential race last November, Democrats across the nation are reckoning with an uncertain future and the best strategy to counter a conservative onslaught in Washington, D.C. The theme for this weekends state convention is The Road to 2026, a year in which key elections will take place in Wisconsin and at the national level with races for Wisconsin governor, 17 state Senate seats, another state Supreme Court position and congressional midterms that include all eight of Wisconsins U.S. House seats.
