Alicia Halvensleben, a Democrat, wins the Waukesha mayoral race in Wisconsin.

This is indicative.

Waukesha, a historically Republican-leaning Milwaukee suburb, is electing a new mayor. State Representative Scott Allen, a Republican, is facing Alicia Halvensleben, a Democrat who is the president of the city’s Common Council. Mayor Shawn Reilly, an independent who left the Republican Party and who endorsed Kamala Harris in 2024, is not seeking re-election. The election is officially nonpartisan.

for it's progressive politics. It was the state of Robert "fighting Bob" La Follette. There are streets in the city I live in that are named after him. A politician from a century ago that made Wisconsin one of those reasonable, progressive midwestern states that have been a great place to live ever since, despite the winters.

I hope that kind of reasonableness is still progressing.
