A cottage cheese shortage, apparently

After being annoyed at not finding cottage cheese in two different stores, I googled and discovered that there’s a shortage because of something viral on TikTok. Sigh. We live in the dumbest timeline.

1. Apparently there has been new interest in making all sorts of recipes using cottage cheese to add protein

So there a lot of demand for it right now.

2. I've not been able to get fresh guacamole and someone here on DU suggested it might be a problem with containers

So I ordered again a few days ago. No guac in entire store, and NO whipped salad dressing (Aldi brand of "miracle whip&quot available in the whole fucking store.

6. Aldi had been altered last time I went through

They moved the oils and puddings and cake mixes to the closeout aisle. There was little oil. I'm figuring it's tariffs. Expecting the worst.

I order through Instacart, so I never see what's in the store...or not.

Damned kraznov!

TY for alerting me. I will order extras.

10. Well, hedge ur bets, it's only 1 store, and oils could be the windup of last year's harvest

So they could be making room for the harvest in 2-3 months. Also this particular store is close to an Aldi warehouse, I shop another infrequently that's far from this warehouse, and the product mix can be different, even the prices vary here or there (though i'm never there on the same day).

Or consumers may have anticipated foreign-source oils will increase in price. It's reading tea leaves.

Thanks for the curds up. I will stretch my supply. Rare for me to have any on hand.

It was supposed to be cottage cheese ice cream. If only. Entirely awful.

Can't stand the stuff. I was forced to eat it as a kid and didn't like it then. It's the texture, not the taste, whether large or small curd. I like ricotta, though. But cottage cheese? No thanks, you can have mine.
