Extremely rare photograph of Harriet Tubman lying in her casket - 1913


I've never seen this photo before and found it fascinating.

Rest in peace, Moses of your people.

I could not be shocked, but pissed as hell. The backlash had to have been as much as for DOD's removal of Jackie Robinson.

The outrage is exhausting, though. We can't let these things go unaddressed, so, Duers, pace yourselves.

Minty is the nickname that her mother called her.

I didn't say it out of disrespect. I have much respect for Harriet Tubman.

There's was a short lived television drama called Underground. There's an entire episode about Harriet and her life and work called Minty (Season 2 Episode 6).

I highly recommend watching this series if one hasn't yet.

At a Metropolitan Museum of Art soon before covid they had an exhibit of photos of African Americans from everyday people to well known.

They had a photo of Harriet Tubman sitting with her knitting at an older age. Very cool.
