the last sight (ii)
what was my father’s last sight as he slowly faded into death
his family absent surrounded by nurses the monitors flashing
but wait i walk in the door herded into a corner in confusion
having only arrived home a few days ago crossing the miles
i had sat by his bed and held his hand in a tight grasp reflex
stare at the numbers which are now completely meaningless
he is going down down down into the dark navy blue deep
on dry land after all the battles he had survived on the seas
a moment before he stared slack faced breathing in the air
now he still stares slack faced yet something is now missing
no more to command and no more to show a reluctant love
empty of emotion i wait the rest of the family now hurrying
the call was too late but was it a blessing or was it a curse
once i had abandon him distances grew now together again
