Related: About this forumGiants dismiss Melvin as manager with year left on contract (MLB.com)
For the second time in three years, the Giants will be searching for a new manager. The Giants announced that Bob Melvin has been dismissed with a year left on his contract after falling short of the playoffs in each of his two seasons in San Francisco.
Melvin, 63, appeared on track to return for a third year after president of baseball operations Buster Posey picked up his 2026 option on July 1, but the organization decided to shift course following another disappointing finish from the Giants this year.
"After meeting with ownership, I met with Bob today to inform him of my decision, Posey said in a statement released on Monday. "On behalf of the organization, I want to express my appreciation to Bob for his dedication, professionalism, and class. I wish him all the best.
After careful evaluation, we determined that making a change in leadership was in the best interest of the team. The last couple of months have been both disappointing and frustrating for all of us, and we did not perform up to our standards. We now turn our focus to identifying a new leader to guide us forward.

(11,375 posts)1. LOL. It was a scandal in 1937 when Brooklyn fired Casey Stengel with a year left on his contract.
Stengel paid NOT to manage!

Think Buster Posey and Bochy were talking before things went south?

(11,418 posts)3. Maybe. But I don't think Bochy would be the best fit now for the Giants.
I'll be interested to see what comes out of the Posey-Bochy talks, though. I think the Giants need someone younger. Maybe they can hire Stephen Voight away from the Guardians.

fun to speculate, but Vogt is staying. Bar is set a lot lower in Cleveland than San Francisco. He'd get more money with SF but that would come with greater scrutiny and headache.
