And showed that all the so-called "draft experts" who thought he should be drafted high in Round 1 are morons.

CLEVELAND (AP) Shedeur Sanders finally got the opportunity to show what he could do as an NFL quarterback.
In one half of action, the Cleveland Browns rookie showed he still faces a steep learning curve.
The highly publicized son of Deion Sanders entered with 12:43 remaining in the third quarter against the Baltimore Ravens after Cleveland announced that Dillon Gabriel was being evaluated for a concussion. Gabriel was ruled out later in the quarter.
Sanders completed his first two passes, but not much went right after that. He went 4 for 16 for 47 yards with an interception and was sacked twice, finishing with a 13.5 passer rating as the Ravens rallied for a 23-16 victory.
One of the worst QB debuts in NFL history.

(112,313 posts)Do I think he's waaay overhyped (and was throughout his time at CU? Hell yes. He had a tremendous receiver there (Travis Hunter) and they were clearly simpatico. But, to not even get a chance to practice with his front-line offensive team? What the hell did they expect?

(29,794 posts)He didn't have first time reps and he was facing the Ravens. Not many could do well under those circumstances when it comes to first snaps in regular season action.
Other than that I don't really care about the Browns. As far as my own team I hope the narrative that Jacoby Brissett is an upgrade over Kyler Murray goes away. If they do start fresh with a new QB I hope it is Dante Moore out of Oregon.

(8,379 posts)As for not having first team reps, it's funny how almost every other quarterback who's had to enter their first game under similar circumstances performed far better.
For Example: Duck Hodges, Pittsburgh Steelers, Undrafted Free Agent Rookie in 2019. On 10/6 he came into his first NFL game against the Baltimore Ravens when starter Mason Rudolph got hurt.
Hodges stats: 7 for 9 for 68 yards, 0 interceptions. 0 sacks. 2 rushes for 20 yards.
Seems not getting reps with the first team didn't cause him to be awful.

(29,794 posts)A lot of quarterbacks work very hard and never threaten to make it. Sheduer Sanders even being able to complete a pass against NFL defenses puts him into a rare category of humans though I understand the standard he is being compared to and admit it was a bad game for him.
The Ravens I think got off to a slow start due to a hard schedule but I still think they are a top 10 team in the NFL. I'm jealous of their GM as I think they consistently get good players and players that I'd draft. I thought Lamar Jackson was more impressive in college than Josh Rosen but the Cardinals drafted Rosen with a top 15 pick while Lamar Jackson was the last pick in the first round of the same draft and a lot of GMs thought Jackson should play wide receiver or running back so I don't put much stock in how GMs rate QBs on draft day. I also would have drafted Charles Woodson or Randy Moss instead of Andre Wadsworth in the 1998 draft but I'm not the Cardinals GM.
As far as Sanders Colorado is doing a lot worse without him or Travis Hunter even though they have a better offensive line. They did get the Liberty QB and a 5 star dual threat QB out of high school but Colorado isn't as good yet.

(8,379 posts)They were mostly healthy through their first 3 1/2 games and only managed to beat the Browns. They got destroyed by the mediocre Chiefs and Texans. In their 5 losses they gave up 177 points, an average of over 35 a game. Their current winning streak has included games against the 4-6 Vikings, 4-7 Dolphins and 2-8 Browns. They have beaten only 1 quality team in the Bears. Yesterday, they barely beat the terrible Browns and only won because Shedeur Sanders was historically awful in the second half. I'm sorry, but this team is nowhere near a "top 10 team"
Also, pointing to a QB's success in college is ridiculous. Tim Tebow won a a Heisman Trophy and 2 national Championships in college and Florida hasn't been nearly as good ever since he left. Despite that, he was a terrible pro quarterback. Who cares if Colorado was better with Sanders, that doesn't remotely make him a good pro prospect. The willingness of people to make excuses for Sanders is insane. In his final preseason game he was 3-6 for 14 yards, 5 sacks for -41 yards and a fumble. Before you try to blame that on the players he was playing with, he was benched for the final drive in that game which the next quarterback led a game winning drive with the same players surrounding him.

(32,750 posts)Loss of high draft choices and burdened with a huge guaranteed contract. Said it here many times.
The trade for Odell Beckham Jr. was dumb too.
Hope like hell they make another stupid trade and take Mac Jones from the 49ers in the off season. S.F. could use another 2nd or 3rd round pick.
I agree about Stafanski. And the GM Andrew Berry. But there's no getting rid of Haslam unless he croaks.

(75,424 posts)A guy who has nit taken a single practice snap with the first team comes in behind that o-line and looks bad.
Not exactly a surprise. Someone above said another poster is overestimating the Ravens D. I think the reply is underestimating how bad Cleveland's offensive line.
Besides, it's not like Gabriel has been lighting things up the past 6 weeks.
The tone of your post suggest you would like to see him fail. I find that confusing.
The circumstances suggest that a 5th, or 4th, or 3rd, or 2nd round pick would struggle, and Gabriel is the evidence.
