Dostoevsky's Explanation of Hamas's Sadistic, Infanticidal, Frenzy

Trigger warning. This is intense and very difficult to read and process. I post this as I believe we need to really see what is happening and not hide the brutality of Hamas, nor rationalize it as anything that could ever be accepted. Yet so many in this world have done so.

I hope this can be discussed. I think it is a vital and ignored topic that is vital not to sweep under the rug with cliche phrases and rationalizations.

The most difficult line: "I have to ask: Was Shiri Bibas forced to see her children being strangled?"

[snip]

On October 7, 2023, Hamas went one step beyond those cultured and educated parents who tortured their little girl in secret, under cover of darkness. Hamas filmed and broadcast its crimes as if they were the highest moral feats. Recall the enthusiastic tone of that young man who called his parents to boast about his murders: “Open my WhatsApp now and you’ll see all those killed. Look how many I killed with my own hands! Your son killed Jews!… Dad, I’m talking to you from a Jewish woman’s phone. I killed her and I killed her husband. I killed ten with my own hands! Dad, ten with my own hands!… Their blood is on my hands,
put Mom on.”

His mother responded: “Oh my son, God bless you!”

“I swear ten with my own hands, Mother… . Dad, go back to WhatsApp now Dad, I want to do a live broadcast… . Mom, your son is a hero, kill, kill, kill!”

“Their blood is on my hands, put Mom on”: In America and elsewhere, Students for Justice in Palestine and other groups rushed to express their delight at the October 7 murders. The more Jewish blood, the better. And when Hamas returned the bodies of the strangled Bibas children, they did so as a great party. Parents brought their children to a baby-murder parade.

How to separate the guilty from the innocent to avoid collective punishment.

In a society like that? Continually creating children and bringing them up with those values?

Some families there presumably reject this, but they must keep their disgust repressed in the interest of safety from their countrymen.

I didn't get it at all, except that it left me very disturbed and feeling very unclear and unsettled. This article is an excellent re-introduction to this classic work on Good and Evil. Which I think is very timely, at least for me.

For the first time in my life I have realized that true evil exists and that many, many people are evil. It was one thing when it was people from another country and another time (Nazi Germany), but now I've realized that I'm living amongst people that are just as bad. And I still don't understand, but I do finally acknowledge that true evil exists and that an ordinary person just down the street can actually be evil.

Thank you for providing this article.
