(JEWISH GROUP) So it began, 82 years ago, today, April 19th, 1943...
...prisoners of the Warsaw Ghetto decided on the eve of Passover, to fight back against the German Nazi enclave. Almost 700 individuals, poorly armed, attacked the Nazis, forcing them out of the Ghetto, at least temporarily. This battle lasted until May 16th, when the rebellion was crushed and the inhabitants were shipped off to death camps, like Treblinka.
This act of defiance, resistance, is important to remember for many reasons, not the least of which, is to let know people Jews will fight back. We will do what we can, even against all odds, to defend ourselves and continue to exist.
The POLIN Museum (The Museum of Polish Jewish History) has decided to mark the occasion with displaying a daffodil. So, if you are so inclined, if you post today, or even for the next month, place a daffodil in your post (or signature line) with the dates April 19, 1943 - May 16, 1943, The Warsaw Ghetto Uprising. Let it be a reminder to ALL, including fellow Jews, we can resist, we must resist, and no matter the sacrifice, we will persist!
