"The World After Gaza": Pankaj Mishra on Decolonization & the Return of "Rapacious Imperialism"

Pankaj Mishra's new book, _The World After Gaza: A History_, was written as a response to the "vast panorama of violence, disorder and suffering that we're seeing today," says the author. In Part 1 of our interview with the award-winning Indian writer, Mishra shares why he "felt compelled" to respond to what he sees as a return to the 19th-century model of "rapacious imperialism" in the Western world, signified by global complicity in Israel's genocide in Gaza.

Democracy Now! is an independent global news hour that airs on over 1,500 TV and radio stations Monday through Friday. Watch our livestream at democracynow.org Mondays to Fridays 8-9 a.m. ET.

in 2016 with their anti-Hillary bullshit

Actually except for a few exceptions, it will be more of a policy of isolationism instead of colonialism, starting with the sociopaths tariffs and trade wars.

became the nominee in 2016, and their "wonderful" Jill Stein and Cornell West interviews, which were encouraging their listeners not to vote Democratic.

I also complained when they falsely blamed the U.S. for causing poor little putin to invade Ukraine. It was bullshit.

As far as their Israeli/Palestinian coverage, it is bias and one-sided. When they had their "investigative journalist" Jeremy Scahill pushing the bullshit that what happened on October 7, wasn't as bad as being portrayed, going even as far as saying there weren't the sexual abuses and torture. It was garbage, and directly from his interviews with Hamas.

They did a terrific job of getting the sociopath back in the WH, like they did in 2016, by pushing false equivalencies between the two parties.

They didn't like what Harris campaigned on, ceasefire, return all hostages, rebuilding Gaza, and back to the negotiating table for a two-state solution. For them it was either all or nothing, disarm Israel period.

Well they got nothing, and that was the same bullshit they did in 2000 with the greens, 2016 with the self-identified progressives, and 2024 which has now given us an extremist right wing leo Leonard supreme court for decades, and a real possibility of the end of democracy in the country.

What trump is doing now isn't colonialism, but an isolationist policy starting with the same garbage the republican did prior to FDR that led to the great depression and subsequently WWII.
