WATCH: Macron corrects Trump after he says European support for Ukraine was a loan - PBS NewsHour
French President Emmanuel Macron corrected Donald Trump Monday on the extent of European support for Ukraine as the two leaders met at the White House, three years after Russia invaded Ukraine.
While the two leaders spoke with reporters in the Oval Office, Macron interrupted Trump as he claimed "Europe is loaning the money to Ukraine. They’re getting their money back."
Macron interjected, saying, “No, in fact, to be frank, we paid 60 percent of the total effort. It was through, like the U.S.: loans, guarantees, grants. We provided real money, to be clear.”
The moment comes after Trump shocked Europe leaders by holding high-level talks about ending the war in Ukraine with Russian officials, without any Ukrainian or European officials present. - Aired on 02/24/2025.
