"Impeachment Is a Remedy for a Runaway President": Rep. Al Green on Why He Disrupted Trump's Address

We speak with Democratic Congressmember Al Green of Texas a day after he was censured by the House of Representatives for disrupting President Donald Trump’s joint address to Congress on Tuesday night. His dramatic protest came near the start of Trump’s record-long speech. In instantly iconic images, Green rose and shook his walking cane at the president on the rostrum, telling him “You have no mandate” to cut vital government programs. Green was ejected from the chamber. This comes as Democrats continue to scramble for a unified response to the onslaught of radical actions by the Trump administration, with party leadership reportedly urging restraint and decorum while some members are taking a more confrontational approach. “We now live in a government that is of the plutocrats, by the plutocrats, for the plutocrats,” Congressmember Green tells Democracy Now! “We have to fight to protect those who cannot protect themselves.” Green has repeatedly called to impeach Trump and says he is currently preparing another such effort, calling impeachment “a remedy for a runaway president who believes that there are no guardrails.”

I'm assuming we're really not going to hear the word Impeachment uttered in sincerity until 2026 - and then only if we win back the House and/or Senate. Too bad that by then, our country will be on its knees, puking into the ditches.

directly to the American People.

The Musk administration has already given ample assistance to the Democratic Party in supplying more than enough grounds to pursue impeachment, and the Republicans have already turned tail and run from their constituents in America's town halls.

That creates a power vacuum.

Whether impeachment is done on Constitutional usurping Article 1, disrespect to the American People and their leaders is disruptive and *rump has never been able to rise above that, moral, economic reasons or a combination of all of the above, there is plenty of grounds to do so.

even at this early stage. However, the hope that republicans won't kill the whole process is just that...hope. They're not going to turn against trump and their own millionaire donors in order to save the country. Repubs have been salivating to have a chance to implement the kind of country they always wanted. This is the first real chance they've had, and they're going to push it hard, no matter what. Add to that the disincentive to do the honorable thing due to death threats and other threats from trump, who knows who his cabinet, and the maga voters themselves. Only if the promise was made that all job firings and other issues directly impacting the maga cult would be rescinded IF he was impeached and convicted could there be a chance in hell prior to 2026.

about town halls, Democrats don't need to talk about impeachment unless the people in the audience bring it up.

All the Democrats primarily need to focus on at the town halls particularly in so called red and purple districts are the growing catastrophic real world effects from Musk/*rump policies and the cowardice of Republican Congress critters running away from the people that they're supposed to be representing.

This will intensify political pressure for responsible government on the Republican controlled Congress as it becomes increasingly self-evident among growing numbers of Americans across the political board that *rump and his grovelers are mentally, emotionally and ethically incapable of such.

If the GOP doesn't impeach and convict him, they will pay a huge price for the foreseeable future, 2026 and beyond, it will be LBJ's purported lament in regards to losing the South for a generation because of Civil Rights on steroids.

Who can stop this. They need to be painted by democrats and anyone else who will say so as traitors, Russian sympathizer, enemies of our allies and supporters of fascism. It's not a lie it is clear as the nose in trumps ass. This shouldn't be hard to make them explain their actions everyday. Everyday.
