(4,347 posts)...get seriously hurt after just finally recovering from Covid. Not to mention the many in the rest of the hospitality industry in the same boat. My wife and I were going to do a bucket list trip to Africa in the fall. That went on hold as she is worried about getting hassled coming home. We are US born and raised and no legal issues (unless some get Trumped up because we vote D) so my bigger worry is that foreign customs folks start treating US citizens like we are increasingly treating their citizens coming here with lengthy flimsy or ungrounded detentions of days or weeks. Two college kids in Copenhagen on spring break just spent two weeks detained for what would otherwise likely have been cleared up in a day or two. Denkark has not taken the slights against it over Greenland or the EU very well I guess. Given we cut almost all USAID to Africa, not real sure I want to see what can go wrong in an unairconditioned cell in Nairobi for a week or two. And Trump wanting to close embassies and consulates and cut State Dept staff to boot.

(232,986 posts)And I certainly don't blame you since the situation for American citizens continues to get worse every day, no matter who they are. My cousin and his wife (they live in Colorado) recently returned from a trip to Canada and I couldn't help worrying. Fortunately, although they saw many pro-Canada signs and posters, they said everyone was nice to them and they had no issues at the border. Though I'm not sure that this is true everywhere.
