Let's talk about Trump caving to governors too late to matter.... - Belle of the Ranch

Well, howdy there Internet people. It's Belle again. So, today we're going to talk about Trump caving to governors too late to matter.

After being called out by the National Governor's Association for an apparent attempt to only invite Republican governors to a bipartisan event, he backtracked. So, here's a quick recap. Trump didn't want to invite all of the governors to the event. The NGA, to include Republican governors, called out his behavior and yanked their support for the meeting. Trump did a normal Trumpian thing and backtracked and then went after Republicans on social media. Trump reportedly told Oklahoma's Republican Governor Kevin Stitt, who chairs the NGA, that he was inviting all 55 governors to the NGA business breakfast. That information was relayed to the governors. Trump then backtracked on the backtrack. "The invitations were sent to all governors other than two who I feel are not worthy of being there.”

So, not all governors. Got it. Then Trump posted, "We will soon have a governor in Oklahoma who knows how to accurately write a press release to the public, in this case, to state that I invited, not happily, almost all Democrat governors to the governor's dinner at the White House."

Stitt, a wise guy, knew this but tried to get some cheap publicity by stating otherwise. Anyway, I'll see whoever shows up at the White House. The fewer the better. I just want to pause for a second and acknowledge that Trump, Mr. Covfefe himself, is telling people they need to write better while talking to the public and the press. That's bigly funny. But Governor Stitt, maybe you should take his advice. Nothing bad can happen. It can only good happen.

Brandon Tatum, who is the NGA's chief executive, said, "As of Tuesday evening, only Republican governors received invites from the White House for the Friday morning business meeting. We are hopeful that we can have constructive bipartisan dialogue with the president during the session. Continuing the tradition of the business meeting is an important step toward bridge building among parties.” Brandon, I wouldn't bring up bridges right now or they'll lose your invite, too.

White House staff suggested Trump can invite who he wants. True. It's his party and he can cry if he wants to. But then it isn't a governor's meeting. It's just another yes-men convention. The purpose of the business meeting is in large part working across state lines on the economy. Trump's antics and general attitude have already ensured that they can't effectively discuss the economy because governors have already decided to not go. Newsom isn't going. That one state is almost 15% of the GDP. How on earth are you going to discuss the economy when the economic engine for the West Coast isn't present?

Trump's personal beefs are once again going to hurt Americans because rather than leading, he chose to divide. As his administration tells you to ignore everything because the Dow broke 50,000 and he tells you affordability is a hoax remember, he's making a conscious choice to ignore the trouble the US economy is really in and is telling American governors you can't sit with us when he desperately needs their help to fix the economy he broke.

Anyway, it's just a thought. Y'all have a good day.
