In reply to the discussion: Disgusting troll JD Vance refers to Senator Alex Padilla as "Jose Padilla" [View all]Moosepoop
(2,072 posts)He was a racist, and he worked with a lot of Hispanic people at the fabricating plant where he was employed. He wouldn't bother learning their names -- he called them all "Jose." His excuse was that they all were illegal (according to him), and would hire in with one name but then disappear when immigration was in the area, then hire back in a few months later with a completely different first and last name. Over and over and over, so there was no point in learning names and he just called them all "Jose" for simplicity.
What he was really doing was dehumanizing them by refusing to acknowledge even their names.
When my teenage daughter (his step-daughter) got her first serious boyfriend, he was Hispanic, which really chapped my ex's ass. And he couldn't even pull his dehumanizing schtick, because the boyfriend's name really was Jose! LOL So he came up with a lame insulting nickname for him, but we all just laughed it off. He and my daughter were together for several years, including during and after the split with my ex.
Anyway, I think that's what Vance was doing -- intentionally dehumanizing Padilla by using "Jose" as a substitute for his actual name.
