but even Trump knows that his responses on this are less than satisfactory to even his most ardent supporters, so maybe he wants Epstein to be the story to distract from everything else. So he pisses off a bit of his base, it's not like they're going to vote Democratic in the next election. And maybe he does it to give an illusion that he's not as whacko as some of his craziest supporters.
