Smart voters knew it was BS, but the purity brigate amplified the "butter emails" chorus and the "rigged" lies, because they cared more for themselves (and getting revenge?) than they did for the country. That's a life-lesson of what petty selfishness and vindictiveness and pride will get ya. And now, we all pay the price for the BS lies and vanities.
