It sounds so brave and glorious when portrayed in fiction but the truth was bloody, messy, and definitely not straight forward. The best understanding I take away from their efforts is that they wouldn't accept defeat. They kept banging away and destroying the Facists and their sympathizers. Often they were sabotaged by their own countrymen and women. Many of their efforts risked not only their own lives but the lives of others exponentially.

I think it is important to reveal every single outrage the administration visits upon citizens and to somehow bring it home to people personally. It is important that we stay close to our communities and foster a sense of shared interest in the decisions and outcomes of policies. It's important that we empower members of our communities to do what they can to support the resistance for truly, MANY people have no idea what to do. Its important that we all realize and help others realize that even very small acts can snowball into big, powerful movements, that we stress that people are not alone and that they have support for even their smallest actions from a multitude of people with shared interests.

We may not be powerful enough as individuals to make huge change quickly, but if we each do something everyday to further the cause of democracy, we will win this fight.
