...ten different times, but if you ask ten Republicans a question you will get ten glimpses into a Charlie and the Chocolate Factoryesque world of delusion that will garner more attention.

It is a different discussion, but it seems like the human brain evolved to crave fantasy over reality--probably because for hundreds of thousands of years fantasy was most of what we had to explain the world around us. Reality has made so much progress over the last 150 years that we seem to be falling back into a pattern of elevating fantasy again--a luxury created by the very success of reality-based progress.

And yes, the result is that it mainstreams the fever-dream we currently call conservatism.
