Confess I thought of this, too. It would be more difficult to gerrymander districts. Downside (besides not being true to our party) is lack of being able to vote in the Dem Primary in closed Primary states. Could only vote for worst Repug...and then cross over to vote all Dem in the General.

Limbaugh came up with a version of this for a couple of election cycles in the late 1990s/early 2000s. As I recall, Repugs were to switch to Dem for the primary and switch back to vote in the General. That only works if switching is easy to do...a Repug co-worker of mine did it.
