(2,759 posts)JFK was our hero. A person who cared about people. We had hopes another person would rise up, but the best we got was LBJ. At least he was honest and stood up to the Republicans.
But Kent State made us realize just how far the Republicans would go to take over. Republicans knew the counter culture was still a threat to their power - we were still protesting Viet Nam and the corporate takeover, and the could not have us active. We were growing stronger. more visible, and more vocal. And more legitimate. The proof was the KS shooters were never identified, much less brought to justice for murdering innocent students. Heck, one was just walking across campus when shot. We expected an investigation, but the media went all out to lie and attack the protesting students. And, to this day we still do not know which of the Guardsmen killed the students..
And the shooting of JFK is still murky...
The murders and how the "machine" as we called it, buried the event, made me distrust the media and Republicans from that day on. And they have fully lived down to my expectations...
