50. Damn! These onions...!

The loss of legitimacy of my religion in the military, all the crap trumps done... even just today. And now this song to sum up the ending of what I call "my innocence." I still marched and protested, but it was like the heart of it was gone. We'd lost our champion. And we've never truly had one since then.

My dad never like Kennedy... either one of them. They were Democrats. He was an old-school Republican and hated the "hippies"... through more than one hissy fit at the length of my skirts, etc. But I will never forget the look on his face as he realized what he'd done when he delivered to me the news that "my guy" would "never be president now." My dad had never looked so small in my eyes until that moment... and I believe he realized it. It was all he could do to just turn around and walk out my bedroom door, while I was crying at the injustice. Don't get me wrong... my dad wouldn't be one of those magas today. He truly was an old school Republican; and he fell for the lie that democrats would take away his guns. He, and my brother today, bought that crap hook, line, and sinker. But he blamed everything bad... even the quality of our food... on republicans. He just couldn't make that leap and see the other side of that coin... that democrats were "good." It was a hard lesson for me, among the others of that day, to learn that the man I looked up to more than any other and loved beyond anything, could be so wrong on something. I voted Democrat the first year I could vote, and I've voted Democrat ever since. I don't know if that makes me as bad as my dad... voting for what seems like party only... but I always felt like the worst democrat was a multitude of times better than the best republican. And I've never seen anything to dissuade me from that... except for the guy who almost had it in the hat, but couldn't keep his dick in his pants... even fathering a love child he tried to keep hidden... while his wife was sick. It was so many years ago, I can't remember his name now. But damn... it was another wake up call to the foibles of men.
