Fetterman: Democrats bungled border issue under Biden

47. Fetterman is right.

Biden and Democrats did bungle the border and anyone who denies it was not paying a lick of attention.

I know! People will bring up the bipartisan border deal that Trump sunk - but that only hammers home the issue even more. Democrats held the House, Senate and presidency for two years and didn't move to push for any border bill or immigration in the two years they held that power. Instead, they only acted when it became politically too toxic. It's bad optics that Biden waited until his reelection year to finally address what many felt was a growing crisis.

And I get it. Some of my friends here will say it was all fearmongering by Republicans and that the border wasn't really a big issue. Obviously the Biden White House and Senate Democrats disagreed or they wouldn't have finally relented and pushed for a pretty conservative border security bill that just ten years ago would have been thought right-wing.

Biden could have done better on the border. It's undeniable illegal crossings rose significantly until he was forced into action in 2024. It should have never gotten to that point and while his delayed action slowed down crossings by the end of 2024, by that point, perception had already set in that there was a border crisis.



Biden should not have waited until 2024 to act. The action he took in 2024 should have happened in 2022 or 2023.
