CES sample collection is not impacted by staffing levels - it's practically entirely automated.

The CPI sample has been reduced but NOT the CES sample.

The Labor Department has cut back on the inflation data it collects because of the Trump administrations government hiring freeze, raising concerns among economists about the quality of the inflation figures just as they are being closely watched for the impact of tariffs
Current Employment Statistics sample by State
Each month the Current Employment Statistics (CES) program surveys about 121,000 businesses and government agencies nationwide, representing approximately 631,000 individual worksites, in order to provide detailed industry data on employment, hours, and earnings for the nation as a whole, all States, and most major metropolitan areas. The table below presents the number of businesses and worksites that are surveyed each month by State. It may be more than expected, but that is not a good number. Anything under 150k is bad.
