20. How does being a bar member keep fees exorbitant?

Membership in the DC bar is required to practice law in the District of Columbia (as defined in Rule 49 of the District of Columbia Court of Appeals Rules), you must be enrolled as an active member of the District of Columbia Bar. See Rule II, Section 4 and Bylaw Article III, Section 3.02.

I’ve been a dues paying (currently $348 a year) for nearly 50 years. Never once occurred to me that it was allowing me to charge exorbitant rates for my services.
