Its who he has always been. Anything that is beyond his left ear is communism. He's nuts and a fascist. This is the closest he's going to get to real power and we're seeing who he really is come out. Imagine him as President, especially now knowing what he can get away with! No, he hasn't turned to the Dark Side, he's always lived there.
