Meat packing plants and covid-19 [View all]
I hope a lot of Coloradans are watching Rachel Maddow as she has done more than anyone else in the media in unearthing the awful truth of the JBS meat packing plant in Greeley where seven workers have died and hundreds have tested positive for the corona virus. It's only one of the many plants in the nation that Trump forced to re-open without testing or meeting any of the CDC guidelines. I have followed JBS since it came to Colorado in 2007 as it bought out all the big name meat companies around the world like Tyson, Smithfield, Monfort and Pilgrims., to become one of the world's largest meat producers, with 75,000 workers in the US and 900,000 around the world. JBS has been involved in so much corruption and so many scandals that went all the way to the President of Brazil (one still in the courts where it was awarded the largest fine in corporate history, 3.2 billion dollars). The Repugs who own Weld County and northeast Colorado surely knew what was going on, "slave labor", no protection for undocumented workers, illegal deforestation, air and water pollution, selling "dirty" meat all over the world, but did nothing but get themselves reelected. It took a killer virus and a few great people like Rachel Maddow to show the corporate greed of the food industry and how many people have suffered and died to put meat on our plates.
