17. Yeah, hard to say what the motivation was

Maybe there were threats made against him or his family if he didn't play along?

Or maybe he enjoyed dabbling in cheating and making some money on the side. It's kind of like Michael Jordan having more than enough money for multiple lifetimes and yet he loves to engage in high-stakes gambling (although that's legal). But the point is that even though you're financially set, there may still be pecuniary activities that entice you.
