2. I've gone through that progression as well: the old purpose-built water bottles

from my Boy Scout days, the Nalgene, the water bladder, the inline-filter on the drinking tube, and now back the perfectly functional 1 liter water bottle from the gas station en route to the trailhead.

My only criteria is that the mouth of the bottle has to be wide enough to get a good seal on my Steripen (the Dasani bottles seem to fit best)...
