There were a couple of interesting pieces on Steven Colbert on Salon magazine recently:

https://www.salon.com/2026/03/09/this-is-not-the-red-scare-colbert-shrugs-off-blacklist-comparisons-takes-shot-at-paramount/

https://www.salon.com/2025/11/04/im-more-conservative-than-people-think-colbert-pushes-back-against-lefty-perception/

Most people irl have a mix of “lefty” and “conservative” “lenses”, “decision-making strategies” etc to borrow a type of language and thought process I disapprove of on the whole more than not.

With these guys’ ill-conceived and lame/mismanaged surveillance state sort of shuffling creepily into existence, while an adequately and fine-honed wariness is necessary, not becoming cynical or jaded is non-optional.
