In reply to the discussion: Gaza must be eliminated': Israel's airwaves are filled with pro-genocide propaganda [View all]AloeVera
(3,752 posts)Nothing was done, though the US had enormous leverage, to stop Israel.
Without the weapons, the aid and diplomatic cover, the slaughter and systematic destruction would have stopped. It's not rocket science.
Red lines kept disappearing. Where is Rafah now? A pile of rubble by the time Biden left office. It was the last hope that Gaza could still be livable for the Palestinians. It's why it was designated a red line in the first place - and of course why Israel had to destroy it. That nothing was done to prevent it, is not only shameful, it ensured the coming ethnic cleansing. It would simply have been more humane and less vicious had Harris won. But it would have happened, it was inevitable, as the conditions for it were already in place and the scale of destruction would have made it necessary. Same as now.
The blame for all this lies with those who committed these crimes and those who supplied the weapons and funding that made them possible. But to lay the blame on those who wanted to stop Israel in its genocidal tracks is really the ultimate in gaslighting and victim-blaming. It's like saying no one should resist Trump because if you do, something even worse may happen. Or blaming the neighbour who reports domestic abuse because the wife-beater turned murderer killed his wife when the police showed up.
Poll after poll showed Democratic voters by a majority opposed Israel's actions and were not happy with Biden's unwavering, unconditional support for Israel. Not changing course - not just for electoral victory but because it was the right thing to do - carried a huge price, as we saw. And the blame for that does not lie with me or anybody else who looked at the slaughter in Gaza in horror and disgust.
