...it shouldn't be described or termed as anything else.
It's not a jail for dangerous criminals who pose a threat to communities. Despite Trump's promise to remove 'worst of the worst from the country,' ICE has arrested only 6% of known immigrant murderers.
That's because they've spent their time raiding workplaces, schools, hospitals, churches, daycares, stalked immigrants appearing for scheduled hearings and check-ins...
Working men and women and their immigrated families will be housed here, along with whatever American citizen they decide to detain, many wthout any charges or accusations of wrongdoing.
Open cruelty against people from other countries has become a virus which is being encouraged and inflamed by leaders at the very top of our government. It comes with actual beatings and assaults done with impunity by armed, masked thugs who are ostensibly being paid for this abomination of justice and humanity by us, by taxpayers.
Trump's Big Beautiful Bill would pour billions into ICE over the next decade, vastly expanding the size and operation of what is essentially Trump's private army.
Now there's this impetus from the Trump regime and their co-conspirators to not only corral men women and children into cages like cattle, but to threaten them as if the role of our government was to foment derision, animus, and outright terror against people in this country who haven't been convicted of anything whatsoever.
My god, the ease in which the nation has slipped into this is stunningly frightening. How many folks here already fit the profile used by these Stasi thugs Trump has unleashed?
Who's their next target?
I get the ambivalence that folks who have complaind about immigrants in some capacity feel about the deportations. But this process isn't just, and it's violently abusive. It's what Nazism began as, what the KGB developed into when it suited the ruling class to exploit divisions they'd fostered and fomented.
This is no joke, and these Trump republican abominations shouldn't be graced with edgy monikers which intend to demean and intimidate people in this country. The least we can do is call this openly abusive fascism out for what it is.
Detainees would have to "know how to run away from an alligator" to escape the facility, Trump boasted on Tuesday.
...and this from the White House tonight:
Ours is a shameful nation. It's also a dangerous one, with dubious and dwindling recourse for Americans targeted by the government.
Yesterday it was reported that Trumps justice department has issued directive to strip naturalized Americans of citizenship for criminal offenses. The memo says those subjected to civil proceedings are not entitled to an attorney like they are in criminal cases.
This isn't about illegal immigration. It never was. It's an escalating campaign of terror and recrimination which is already impacting enough of us - neighbors, co-workers, friends - to feel like our government is actually targeting us.
