15. Perhaps you've forgotten about batteries?

None of the sources of energy – including natural gas, oil, and gas – are currently sufficient on their own. But wind and solar are a significant part of Texas' power these days. Approximately 30% of our energy comes from renewable sources. This includes significant contributions from wind and solar power.

During the 2022 "Snowpocalypse," much of the power grid failed, with the greatest percentage of failures coming from those dependent on fossil fuels, then nuclear, due to lack of winterization. While some wind turbines failed, most stayed online. Much of Texas was without power for days. An estimated 750 died of the cold.

At our home in Central Texas, we never lost power, but we conserved all we could and used our fireplace to stay warm, wiping out our firewood supply. Most of our town and of Austin did lose power. Apparently we are near enough to the fire station to share their grid, and it was a priority to keep online.
