My Mom had a huge garden and we canned things at the end of summer. We always had a large freezer full of beef and pork and had chickens for eggs. Dad joked we could live for a year off of what we had put away.
Maybe that is where I get this. I always have enough to live a month or so. My husband was a boy scout so we are always prepared.
